National Grid engineers are currently in the village trying to resolve problems with the gas supply, thought to be due to the ingress of water. Several properties at the northern end of Birchanger Lane, including The Cottage guest house, have had their supplies cut off, as has all of Bradley Common.
National Grid plans to lend fan heaters to affected properties.
Update 23rd Feb, 0730. Workmen have been digging up Birchanger Lane in an attempt to restore supplies, but their work is not complete. National grid has delivered a letter to affected properties apologising for the situation and promising that they are working round the clock to rectify the fault. They also urge residents not to try to use gas until the supply is restored and to stagger their use of electrical items as demand will be much higher than usual as residents use fan heaters and immersion heaters in place of gas. To contact National Grid about this situation call 0845 605 6677.
Update 23rd Feb, 1630. Supplies are being restored to the 67 properties affected.
