What is it?
Birchanger opens its gardens to villagers and visitors alike during the Birchanger Open Gardens weekend. About 15 gardens open in all parts of the village. Each garden is different: some are large, some are small. Some neat and formal, others have more of a 'country cottage' look.
But each represents months of anxiety and hard work, and the results are stunning.

The Status of Birchanger Open Gardens
Birchanger Open Gardens is currently in a dormant state, but has retained its organisation (and a little cash) so that it can be resurrected in the future, with any luck when some enthusiatic new gardeners move into the village. In the meantime those involved would welcome any ideas for activities that would improve the village, and would be pleased to offer help and support.

Funds Raised
Birchanger Open Gardens sells programmes that allow visitors to gain access to the gardens. In addition there are things on sale at some of the gardens, such as ice creams, barbecued food or cream teas. Profits are donated to village causes such as the Birchanger Village Magazine, the Scouts and for the restoration of the village war memorial.

Open Gardens Organization
Birchanger Open Gardens is chaired by Sheila Devereux (email her). Other active members include Steven Smith (treasurer); Elizabeth Godwin; Jeff and Angie Driscoll and all of those who open their gardens.
