Birchanger M11 Junction 8 Public Opinion survey results

91 people, mostly Birchanger residents but a few from outside the village, completed our questionaire asking for views on the proposed M11 junction 8 works. The results are in, and you have made your views known in no uncertain manner.

There may still be one or two printed forms that we have not yet received, but our findings so far are as follows.

86% of those who expressed an opinion thought the scheme as a whole was bad or very bad.

Other highlights:

  • 86% of those who use private vehicles to cross the roundabout say they'll use the other end of the lane rather than go around the J8 roundabout
  • 72% oppose replacing the roundabout with traffic lights
  • 88% oppose being forced to turn left at the end of the lane
  • 40% of you support a new cycle/footpath along the lane
  • About half of you agree with the bus lane suggestion, but many of you want it to be available for other vehicles

We'll put up some more analysis when we've studied the figures further (any volunteers?).
